30 Day Get to Know Me Challenge- Day 3

Day 3 – A book you love

TWILIGHT!!! ¬†Oh gosh I love these books!! And the movies too! I’m a fanatic, I can admit it and I’m completely ok with that. ūüôā

China Glaze Dress Me Up from The Capital Colours Hunger Games Collection

Here is the first set of swatches I’ll be doing from my Feb Haul. I purchased 3 of the Hunger Games colors from Sally’s and at first Dress Me Up was my favorite, but now I’m not so sure. Take a look for yourself…

(The first 3 pictures were outside on my porch and the last was inside with the flash on)

As far as the color, I really thought it would be more of a pinkish color but to me it looks more like a neutral. May just have been the lighting in the store. I’ve never worn neutral/nude colors, they never really appealed to me, but I must say I do like Dress Me Up, may not be my favorite from the collection, or what I thought it would be, but I do like it.

Next up I’ll be swatching my China Glaze Magnetix polish I bought which was requested by Miss Amanda :). If you havent’t already, check out her blog Mae’s Beauty Reports, She purchased the¬†Layla Magneffect¬†polish from Ulta so we’ll see what the China Glaze Magnetix looks like compared to the¬†Layla Magneffect¬†polishes.

Until next time…

31 Day Polish Challenge- (Day 9-Rainbow)

So today I planned on doing a rainbow mani for the 9th day of the polish challenge. And after searching wordpress and other blogs I stumbled upon this mani that I thought was perfect from 2000 Miles¬†(if you haven’t checked out the blog, def go do it, she has some really cool DIY stuff over there!)

Now for whatever reason I have NEVER been able to conquer the whole crackle polish thing. No idea why, but they never come out how I invision. But I had high hopes for this simple mani. Sadly it was a mega fail lol.

I started with just 2 colors on each nail in messy stripes. I didn’t worry to much about it being perfect because the crackle would cover it. But as you can see the first nail in red and orange came out ok, and the rest was like “HAHA Yeah right!!” lol I’m not sure what I did differently from the pinky through the rest, but it sucked lol. Oh well. At least I attempted. Next up will be Gradient nails… we’ll see how that works out lol.

30 Day Get to Know Me Challenge- Day 2

Something I feel strongly about…

Cheating in relationships…

Whether it’s a marriage or just dating, it doesn’t make sense to me. Why would you waste your time and the time of your spouse/SO being together if you’re just going to cheat? There’s nothing wrong with having friends of the opposite sex if that’s all the situation is. But if your “friend” knows ¬†your weak spots (physically or emotionally), or is all up in your cookies, then you’re cheating and I feel like you’re wrong. Like a lot of people, I’ve been cheated on and it hurts, yeah I was angry but I didn’t set out to make every man pay for it. That wouldn’t make sense and not only would I be hurting people but I doubt I would have gotten much happiness from it. I just think if you can’t keep your legs closed, or your mouth and hands to yourself then you should just be single. Save other people the grief. I also hate how people can be in a relationship, complain to their friends or family about their SO, tell all about their person/people on the side, and in the next breath, talk about how bad they want someone who loves them, and how they want a good relationship… Put a sock in it geez!! SMH yeah… rant over lol

Loc Thoughts

So it’s like 1 am and as usual I’m up on Youtube looking at loc videos and what not and it has me thinking of some important things I’ve learned over the past few months when I first started researching locs.

1. Get to know YOUR hair…

¬† ¬† ¬†-Yeah you can get tips and tricks and hints from everywhere but I feel like until you know your hair, what it likes and doesn’t like, how it looks and feels when it’s moisturized, dry, in need of a deep cleansing, or whatever, you’re not going to be able to properly apply and benefit from a lot of the things you learn from others.

2. Water is your friend…

-Really I knew this from when I was transitioning. As a relaxed head, water (and any kind of moisture in the air) was the enemy lol. But our hair thrives off of water. Both internally and topically. Your body needs a certain amount of water and so does your hair. Yes to much water can be a bad thing, but again, that goes back to knowing your hair.

3. Less is more…

¬† ¬† -As a loose natural I was a true Product Junkie. I had a product for everything. Scalp oil, hair oil, hot oil, pre-poo, no poo, low poo, shampoo, rinse out conditioner, leave in conditioner, deep conditioner, protein treatments, shea butter, shea butter mixtures, sealing products, moisturizers, cremes, butters, gels, stylers,¬†clarifiers, clay masks, ¬†you name it, I had something for it lol But as a loced head you really don’t need all of that. Build up and lint are major issues for loc wearers so being easy on the products is a must because if you get serious build up, especially in the early stages, it could cause tremendous issues in the future. From dull locs, to lint covered locs, gross, dirty smelly locs, all that jazz and who wants that? Locs already have a misconception of being dirty, no need to give people a reason to talk bad about your head and continue with the stereotype you know?

4. Keep your hands out of it…

¬† ¬† -Even as a loose natural I had an issue with HIH (hand in hair)¬†syndrome, but now that I’m trying to get my baby locs to do their thing, it’s even harder to resist the urge. What makes it worse is that it’s a¬†subconscious habit that is hard to break once it starts. HIH and HIL (hand in loc) syndromes can lead to things like thinning locs, breakage, knots in loose naturals, just¬†unnecessary¬†drama, so save yourself the grief and keep your hands out of your head. Keeping your hair covered also helps with this, especially when you sleep (it may help with the frizzies as well)

And last but not least…

5. ¬†Stay positive…

¬† ¬† -I know a lot of people will always have negative things about anything and everything, but locing your hair is a journey and since there are many stereotypes and misconceptions about locs, sometimes people will come to you with their opinions whether or not you asked for them and it can make you feel like crap. And to make matters worse, when you start going through that frizzy/ugly/awkward stage or whatever you choose to call it, you may feel less attractive, like giving up, throwing all that hard work and effort down the drain and taking your hair out, staying in the house, or whatever. But always look at the bigger picture. Don’t let haters get you down, and just remember that locs don’t just develop overnight, but when they finally begin to mature, it’ll all be worth it.

What I do is write inspirational thoughts/quotes/etc on my bathroom mirror, that way I see it often and it will help to push me forward and make me smile when ¬†I feel down. Even if you’re not locing, it never hurts to write something on the mirror telling yourself just how freaking awesome and beautiful you are. You never know it might brighten your whole day ūüôā

30 Day Get to Know Me Challenge- Day 1

Day 1- 5 Ways to Win Your Heart

1. Be yourself– Nothing is more of a turn off then a guy who can’t be himself. You know, that guy who is one way with you, but someone different around his friends, family, etc? SMH can’t stand that.

2. Be honest– Kind of goes with the first thing. But I hate liars. Regardless of what it’s about. I don’t see much point in a relationship if you’re just going to lie. Seems pointless.

3. Show your romantic side every now and then– I can admit, I’m a hopeless romantic. I love getting flowers, chocolate, teddy bears, random text or phone calls through the day just to say “I love you” or “I’m thinking about you”, “You’re beautiful” and all that jazz. Breakfast in bed is nice. Kisses for no reason. Lucky for me, my honey does all of that occassionaly. Not to the point of being annoying, but enough to surprise me and leave me smiling for hours.

4. Play in my hair– kind of random, but I love the feeling of people (particulary Honey) playing in my hair. I give him regular scalp massages and usually end up making him fall asleep and I never use to understand it, but my oh my does it feel good. Such a turn on and it feels good to just relax and be pampered by such a simple thing. If you’ve never had anyone play in your hair, try it, you may like it lol ūüôā

5. Love/Like me for me– I’m not like anyone else and I don’t try to be. I’m weird,¬†uncoordinated, clumsy, my jokes tend to suck, I’m kind of like a perfectionist, but I can be forgetful, I tend to nag, I over analyze a lot of things, but I’m exactly how I’m supposed to be and I love hard and I wear my heart on my sleeve. So as clich√© as it may be, if you can’t accept those times when I’m a hot mess and love me anyway, why on earth should I give you the time of day when I have it all together?? lol I think Ms Monroe said it best…
